BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed said on Monday (October 6) that if the country’s anti-fascist forces remain united, there will be no crisis surrounding the upcoming national election.
He suggested that holding a referendum on political reforms alongside the national election could help avoid any potential delay in the polls.
Salahuddin Ahmed was speaking at a discussion titled “Challenges and Prospects of a Quality and Credible Election” held at the National Press Club.
“The election itself is not a challenge — the challenge lies with those who seek to delay it,” he said.
Salahuddin Ahmed also urged the government to empower the Election Commission (EC) through an ordinance to organise a nationwide referendum, calling it a step toward ensuring public participation in the reform process.
Referring to what he described as “fascist rallies” led by Subhe Sadek’s group and messages reportedly sent from Delhi and Paris, the BNP leader said such moves carry no significance to the people.
“The people do not take those messages seriously,” he remarked. “If the anti-fascist alliance remains strong and united, there will be no political or electoral crisis.”
