DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has relaxed restrictions on holding religious events in public places ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections.

The programs can be held taking approval of authorities concerned, including Returning Officer or UNO or any other authorized officials of the Returning officer.

A letter signed by EC Joint Secretary Farhad, was issued on Tuesday (Nov 27) in this connection.

But no political speech will be allowed in such gatherings including waz-mahfil, the letter said. 

Earlier on November 20, the EC imposed a ban on waz-mahfil till the national election is held.
