158 Bangladeshis repatriated from Libya

A total of 158 undocumented Bangladeshi nationals detained at Libya’s Tajoura Detention Centre were repatriated to Dhaka on Tuesday via a chartered Buraq Air flight.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, coordinated with the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Most returnees had attempted to reach Europe illegally and faced abuse by human traffickers. Upon arrival, they received Tk 6,000, food, medical care, and temporary shelter.

Officials urged the public to avoid such perilous migration routes.
