Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed seven more individuals, including women and children, through the Panchagarh border—marking the fourth such push-in incident in these months.
The incident took place early Friday (June 13) at the Golabari border near Main Pillar 743/1 under Amarkhana Union in Panchagarh Sadar Upazila
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) troops from the Amarkhana BOP under the Nilphamari-56 Battalion intercepted the individuals after they were seen moving near the border area at dawn.
The detained individuals were identified as Ariful Sheikh (31), his sons Imran Sheikh (11) and Raihan Sheikh (7), Rahima Begum (30), Khadija Begum (36), Al Mamun Biswas (30), and Nazmin Akhter (40). Most of them are residents of Narail and Jashore districts.
According to BGB’s initial questioning, all seven are Bangladeshi citizens who had been working in India. They were arrested by Indian police about three months ago and later released at the border without any formal repatriation process.
BGB handed over the detainees to Panchagarh Sadar Police Station after filing a General Diary (GD).
Commander of BGB-56 Battalion, Lt Col Sheikh Badruddoza, said the BSF violated border laws by carrying out the push-in unilaterally, without informing BGB.
“We strongly protested the incident and have taken strict positions along the border,” he added.
Panchagarh Sadar Police Station’s Second Officer Md Kaiyum Ali confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
