China is set to send a technical expert team to Bangladesh to support the implementation of the Teesta project, according to official communication from Beijing to Dhaka.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen conveyed the decision during a meeting with Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday. The meeting lasted for about an hour.
Bangladesh has sought approximately USD 550 million in loans from China to implement the Teesta Master Plan.
Beijing is reportedly viewing the proposal positively. During the meeting, both sides also discussed the implementation of decisions taken during the recent Beijing visit by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus.
In addition to the Teesta project, the discussion also covered cooperation in hospital construction under Chinese assistance.
