DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Monday upheld the High Court order that declared illegal the use of national anthem tune as ring tone or welcome tune in mobile phones.

But, the apex court reduced fine imposed by High Court by Tk 30 lakh to Tk 50 lakh each to mobile phone operators for using national anthem as a business.

Three-member bench of appellate division, headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order.
