Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed visited the District and Sessions Judge Court in Barishal on Thursday morning, accompanied by a seven-member delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

During the visit, the delegation observed various court activities, including the legal aid centre and Nyayakunja, spending over an hour at the premises.

Barishal District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Faruque Hossain said the Chief Justice has been attending UNDP-organized seminars in divisional cities, with the final seminar held in Barishal today. As part of the programme, the delegation also visited the court facilities.

This marks the Chief Justice’s second visit to the Barishal court. He expressed satisfaction with the court’s activities, while the UNDP team voiced optimism that the justice system would become more accessible to poor and distressed people.

Following the court visit, the Chief Justice attended a seminar titled “Judicial Independence and Efficiency” at Hotel Grand Park at 11:30 am, organized by UNDP.

Among those present were Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zahir Uddin, Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Masudur Rahman, Senior Assistant Judge Sabbir Mohammad Khalid, First Additional District and Sessions Judge Nusrat Jahan, Human Trafficking Prevention Tribunal Judge Sohel Ahmed, Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Mohammad Rakibul Islam, District Lawyers’ Association President Sadiqur Rahman Linkon, and General Secretary Mohammad Riaz Hossain.
