Khaleda remains confined for 9th day

DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been spending the nine consecutive day of confinement to her Gulshan political office.

Huge law enforcers were seen deployed in front of the Gulshan office on Monday morning.

Moreover, water cannons and police van also were seen standing there so that no vehicle can enter or come out of the office.

Two garbage-laden trucks of North City Corporation kept aside in the road.

On Sunday night, the law enforcers removed the seven trucks full of bricks, soil and sand which were parked there since noon.

The BNP-led 20-party alliance, earlier, announced a protest rally in city marking January 5, the first anniversary of 10th general election, as ‘Democracy Killing Day’.

The BNP chairperson was kept confined to her Gulshan political office since January 3 and later tried to go at Nayapaltan central office.

But, law enforcers obstructed her by cordoning off her office, alleged BNP.

Meanwhile, ruling Awami League announced to stage rally across the country including 16 spots in city marking January 5, the ‘Victory Day of Democracy’.

Due to these overlapping political programs, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) imposed a ban on all kinds of rally and demonstration in city from January 4 (Sunday) afternoon.
