Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reiterated that the repatriation of Rohingya refugees to their homeland remains the only viable solution to the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
“There is no alternative. The return of the Rohingya people to their homeland is the only viable solution,” Yunus told Julie Bishop, former acting Prime Minister of Australia and the UN Special Envoy on Myanmar, during a meeting at a hotel on Monday.
The discussion covered a range of issues, including the situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, the chronic funding shortfall affecting Rohingya communities, and key topics expected at the high-level conference scheduled for Tuesday.
“Let’s hope tomorrow’s conference brings forth meaningful proposals. This is not an issue the world can afford to forget,” Yunus added.
Bishop stressed the importance of diversifying funding sources to support Rohingya communities and urged OIC member states to increase their contributions.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, NCP leader Tasnim Jara, and SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed were also present at the meeting.
