Bangladesh Bank reserve heist report set for Nov 4

The court has set November 4 for the submission of the investigation report in the Bangladesh Bank reserve heist case. The report, originally due today, was rescheduled after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to submit it, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain said.

The case stems from the February 5, 2016 heist, when US$8.1 million was stolen from the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States via fraudulent SWIFT codes and transferred to the Philippines. Authorities believe a local network in Bangladesh assisted the hackers.

On March 15, 2016, Zobayer Bin Huda, Deputy Director of Bangladesh Bank’s Accounts and Budgeting Department, filed a case at Motijheel Police Station against unidentified persons under the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012 (Amendment 2015) and sections of the ICT Act 2006.

The CID is currently investigating the case.
