Authorities have withdrawn the officer-in-charge (OC) of Badda Police Station and suspended seven other police personnel following the theft of ammunition and valuables from the Sri Sri Mahadev Ashram and Kali Temple in Nimtali of Badda.
According to multiple Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) sources, 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition and several personal belongings were stolen from the duty quarters of on-site police officers.
DMP Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Md. Tarek Mahmud confirmed that an SI, an ASI, and five constables were temporarily suspended for negligence in duty. The Badda OC, Md. Saiful Islam, was withdrawn from his post in connection with the incident.
The theft reportedly occurred between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, when four police officers on duty and three Ansar members were asleep. Thieves seized four bags, two handbags, and three mobile phones. One bag contained 30 rounds of shotgun ammunition.
Later in the morning, at around 9:45 a.m., the stolen items were recovered from a vacant plot near the temple premises. Three individuals were taken to the police station for questioning in connection with the theft.
DC Tarek Mahmud said that although the stolen ammunition and items were recovered intact, the incident clearly reflected a lapse in duty. “Strict departmental measures have been taken against those responsible for negligence,” he added.
