Signal 3 hoisted as Bay depression forms

The National Disaster Response Coordination Centre (NDRCC) today issued a warning after a deep depression developed over the west-central and adjoining north-western Bay of Bengal.

According to the latest NDRCC update at 12 pm, the system was located about 835 kilometers southwest of Chattogram seaport and 810 kilometers southwest of Cox's Bazar seaport.

The depression is expected to move towards India’s Andhra Pradesh coast and cross near Gopalpur in Odisha, close to Paradip, around 9 pm today.

Maximum wind speeds are forecast to reach 50–60 kmph, while sustained winds of 48 kmph have already been recorded near the center. The sea remains very rough around the depression’s core, the bulletin said.

As a precaution, maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3, the Press Information Department (PID) stated.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the Bay of Bengal have also been instructed to remain in safe shelter until further notice.
