Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjad Ali on Tuesday (June 24) said no form of mob justice will be tolerated in the city.
He also warned police officers of disciplinary action if negligence showed in preventing such incidents.
DMP Commissioner made the statement while speaking to reporters after attending an award ceremony for a “Road Safety Poster and Slogan” competition, held under the DMP’s DRSP Project with technical assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
“Even if police are found negligent in dealing with mob justice, action will be taken against them,” the DMP Commissioner said.
He referred to the recent incident involving former Chief Election Commissioner Nurul Huda in Uttara, where a mob gathered during his detention.
Sajjad Ali further said that action has already been taken against some police personnel for negligence in a few previous mob justice incidents.
“The number of such cases has gone down in the past few months compared to earlier,” he added.
He also clarified that police will not tolerate any form of unlawful home raids or forced entries at night without proper procedures.
