2.5pc incentive decision help increase remittance inflow: Quader

The inflow of remittances has increased due to the decision to provide a 2.5% incentive on remittances sent by expatriates, said Awami League General Secretary and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader today (May 30).

He made the remarks through a statement condemning the remarks of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

In a statement, Obaidul Quader said that due to the increase in remittances sent by expatriates, the BNP is experiencing frustration. Mirza Alamgir's repeated criticisms and the expression of BNP's frustration were dismissed amid the progress and success in Bangladesh. The intention expressed by Mirza Fakhrul's remarks regarding the increased flow of remittances from the United States has been reiterated, he said.

He also said: "Those who constantly seek foreign interventions like migratory birds against and work against the country and its people are not able to accept the good news of increased remittances, it is natural. The flow of remittances has increased due to the timely decision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to provide a 2.5% incentive on remittances sent by expatriates."

Obaidul Quader further said that the establishment of a strong economic framework in Bangladesh under the successful leadership of Bangabandhu's daughter, and the recognition of Bangladesh as a safe place for investment, have also encouraged expatriate Bangladeshis, like foreign investors, to be motivated to invest in the country.
