The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has instructed inland river ports across several regions to hoist cautionary signal number one, warning of potential rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds.
The advisory, issued on Wednesday (May 14), will remain in effect until 6:00 pm today, according to a bulletin from the Met Office.
“Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary west/north-westerly gusty or squally wind speeds of 45-60 kph are expected over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. River ports in these regions must hoist cautionary signal number one,” the statement read.
Authorities have urged residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, as unstable weather conditions could disrupt river navigation and increase risks for small vessels.
