Police have arrested three suspects today (May 14) in connection with the fatal stabbing of Shahriar Alam Samya, a Dhaka University student and Chhatra Dal leader, near Suhrawardy Udyan, adjacent to Shahbagh Police Station, late last night.
The suspects have been identified as Tamim Howlader (30), Samrat Mallick (28), and Palash Sardar (30).
Ramna Division Deputy Police Commissioner Masud Alam confirmed that all those arrested are outsiders.
Samya, 25, was serving as the literature and publication secretary of the Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. He was a master’s student at the Institute of Education and Research (2018-19 session) and a resident of Ullapara, Sirajganj.
His classmate, Ashraful Islam Rafi, recounted that Samya was riding his motorcycle past Suhrawardy Udyan when he collided with another biker, leading to an altercation. The argument escalated into a fight, during which unknown assailants stabbed Samya in the right thigh before fleeing.
Samya was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
