PM hands over Independence Award 2023

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has handed over Independence Award 2023, the highest national civil award of the country, to the Fire service and Civil Defense and nine distinguished persons.

She distributed the award in person in a ceremony held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday (March 23).

The award recipients received this recognition for their glorious and outstanding contribution to their respective fields.

Among the recipients, the Fire Service and Civil Defence received the award under the social services category.

Besides, Freedom Fighter Colonel (retd) Shamsul Alam, late Lieutenant AG Mohammad Khurshid, Shaheed Khwaja Nizamuddin Bhuiyan and Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Bir Bikram, go the award under the Independence and Liberation War category.

Selim Al Deen (Mohammad Moinuddin Ahmed) received the award under the literature category, Pabitra Mohan Dey under the culture category and Raqibul Hasan under the sports category. 

Nadira Jahan (Surma Zahid) and Dr Firdausi Qadri got the award for their contributions to research and training.

Each award recipient received a gold medal, a certificate and a cheque of honorarium.

Bangladesh has been honouring individuals and institutions with the award every year since 1977 ahead of Independence Day.
