RAJBARI: An alleged leader of an outlawed party was killed in a gunfight with police in Mizanpur union of Rajbari district sadar early Tuesday (November 28).
The deceased was identified as Abbas Sardar alias Khokon, 48, hailed from Kamarhat village under Sujanagar upazila in Pabna.
Rajbari sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Tarique Kamal told Banglanews that Khokon was the leader of a banned extremist body. He was accused in several cases including of murder.
Tipped-off, members of Detective Branch (DB) and sadar thana police jointly conducted the drive while Khokon was holding a secret meeting with other members of the extremist body, at Beninagar Kalitola area under Mizanpur union, at around 3:30am.
The law enforcers retaliated as the extremists fired upon them, leaving Khokon dead on the spot while the others managed to flee.
Police recovered some arms including a rifle and shooter gun from the spot, said the OC.
