BNP Standing Committee Member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the party will nominate candidates for the upcoming national parliamentary election based on popularity and the findings of internal surveys.
“Those who are popular among the people and who are ahead in the results of the party's internal surveys will receive the BNP nominations,” he told reporters after placing a wreath at the grave of BNP founder Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
The event was organized by the Pharmacists Association of Bangladesh to mark World Pharmacists Day 2025.
Dr Zahid said BNP began its election preparations around a year and a half ago, and activists are now working actively at the grassroots. “The party will finalize nominations very soon,” he added.
The senior leader further said BNP will contest the polls by overcoming both domestic and international conspiracies, pledging to implement the party’s declared 31-point programme with public support.
At the same time, Dr Zahid revealed that BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to return to the country within weeks. “He will lead the movement for the restoration of democracy, including the upcoming elections,” he said.
