Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today said that no one has been given any “green signal” for the party’s nomination to contest the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
“None has been given the green signal for the party’s nomination in any constituency. Those who have shown the best performance in party activities will be considered for nominations. BNP’s nominations are made through its constitutional process, not by any green signal,” he told a press conference at the BNP central office in Dhaka.
Rizvi said BNP is making thorough preparations for the elections and will select qualified candidates based on popularity, acceptability, and contribution to party activities. The party’s acting chairman will announce the final list of candidates after the election schedule is declared, he added.
He said the Parliamentary Board is the sole authority for nominating candidates for parliamentary or other elections, and its decision is final.
Urging party leaders and activists not to be misled by “fictional news” in the media, Rizvi dismissed reports claiming that some candidates had already received approval.
“Certain newspapers and social media platforms are spreading fabricated lists of BNP-nominated candidates with names and details. This false propaganda aims to create division and unrest within the party,” he added.
Rizvi further said that acting chairman Tarique Rahman has instructed activists to remain united and work collectively at the grassroots level. “Instead of green signals, he is giving specific instructions for all to strengthen unity, stay people-friendly, and actively engage in public-oriented activities,” he said.
He said Tarique Rahman urged leaders and activists to go door-to-door with BNP’s 31-point charter of liberation and uphold unity under the party’s symbol, the paddy sheaf.
