1 killed, 20 injured as jeep plunged into Lama ditch

BANDARBAN: A woman was killed and 20 people injured as a passenger-carrying jeep plunged into a ditch in Lama upazila of Bandarban district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Meching Marma (32), wife of Khuikaching Marma of the upazila.

The injured, admitted at Lama Upazila Health Complex, could not been identified immediately.

Witnesses said, a Lama-bound passenger jeep plunged into a road-side ditch on Lama-Sualok read as the driver lost his control over steering, leaving Meching Marma dead on the spot and 20, including women and children, injured.

Moreover, Lama Upazila Parishad chairman Khoyainu Aung Chowdhury and other local representatives visited the spot.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Lama Thana sub-inspector (SI) Rabiul Hossain said that police have seized the vehicle.

But the driver Mohammad Anwar Hossian had managed to flee the scene, he added.
