DHAKA: A young man was killed by police firing while allegedly taking preparation for mugging in Kutubkhali Shantek area under Jatrabari Thana of the city early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Sohel, 26.

Police claimed that Sohel was a listed accused in many cases.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jatrabari Thana Abani Shankar Kar said sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Sohel and Sajib harurled cocktails targeting them.

In retaliation, police also opened fire at suspected muggers that left the duo injured.

The injured were taken to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where Sohel succumbed to his injuries.

Police also recovered five cocktails from their possession.
