EC orders to transfer 2 cops

DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) asked authorities concerned to transfer two police officers aiming to hold Magura-1 constituency by-election in free and fair manner.

Election Commissioner M Shah Nawaz Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews on Sunday.

He said EC ordered police headquarter to transfer them as per the report submitted by the returning officer.  

According to directives signed by EC assistant secretary Rajib Ahsan, EC asked to withdraw Sreepur Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) and Magura Thana sub-inspector (SI) Manik Gayen and post them to another place.

The directives also read: The police headquarters was asked to take necessary action to replace new officers in the vacant posts.

On May 30, voting will be held in by-election in the Magura-1 constituency.

National People’s Party candidate kazi Touheedul Islam, Bangladesh Nationalist Front candidate KM Motasim  Billah, Awami League candidate Majior General (retd) ATM Abdul Wahab and independent candidate Tapan Kumar Ray will vie for the post.

A total of 3,23,144 voters are expected to cast their vote to elect their representative to Jatiya Sangsad.
