The July Memorial Museum will present a full account of Sheikh Hasina’s 16 years of misrule, including the Pilkhana massacre, enforced disappearances and killings, “Aynaghar,” the Shapla massacre, and election rigging, through preserved historical records.
The information was revealed by the museum authorities during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka this afternoon, according to a press release from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki informed the Chief Adviser that the construction of the museum will be completed by October 31, with its inauguration planned for the first week of November.
“We are curating the pictures of Hasina’s misrule to showcase in the museum so that the history of 16 years of fascism remains alive—along with the atrocities executed directly under instructions from Ganabhaban,” Farooki said.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus thanked those involved and expressed hope that visitors would feel the spirit of August 5, when people rose in resistance. “One of the main objectives of this museum is to inspire strong resistance against misrule among citizens,” he said.
Chief Curator Tanzim Wahab added that the work is being carried out in coordination with the ICT prosecution team and the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances. “The museum will sequentially present the stories of misrule so visitors can understand how Sheikh Hasina used to run the country,” he noted.
Farooki further said that the museum will preserve audio recordings of instructions behind enforced disappearances and killings, alongside stories of false promises made to victims’ families. It will also feature a screening center showing documentaries on the July Uprising and 16 years of Hasina’s rule.
