Bangladesh keen to build houses for quake-hit Nepalese

DHAKA: Bangladesh has expressed its intentions to help build houses especially for the earthquake-affected Nepalese.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed the intentions while talking to her Nepal counterpart Sushil Koirala in telephone conversation on Wednesday.

Nepal premier also thanked Bangladesh for extending hands of cooperation in various fields to the quake-hit country.

Sheikh Hasina disclosed the matter while visiting the defence ministry on Thursday.

She said, ‘I told the Nepal premier that the rainy season is imminent and people need shelters’.

She further said she proposed Sushil Koirala to build fenced houses with the help of Bangladesh Army who are experienced in this field.

Emphasizing on friendly relations with neighbours, Sheikh Hasina also proposed to send corrugated iron shit and 100,000MT rice.

The premier also thanked India for providing opportunity in sending rice to Nepal using its land.

However, Bangladesh has already sent 10,000MT rice, dry foods and potable water to Nepal. Besides, a medical team of Bangladesh Army provided treatment to the quake-hit people.
