DHAKA: At least 12 people, including three of a family, were killed and scores injured as a tin-shed house collapsed into muddy soil at Hajipara in city’s Rampura area Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Nizam, 45, hailed from Barguna, his wife Kalpana Begum, 42 and daughter-in-law Roksana, 22, a rickshaw-puller Mizanur Rahman, 30, a shopkeeper Harun-or-Rashid, 56, Saiful, 14, Sajida, 19, Farzana, 9, Zakir 40, Runa, 14, Josna Begum, 40 and another unidentified man.
DMP Motijheel Zone ADC M Farid Uddin confirmed the deaths of 12 people to banglanews.
Local people claimed another 20 people are still missing in the incident that took place around 4:00pm.
Moreover, some others were sent to nearby hospitals, said Rampura Thana operation officer sub-inspector (SI) Mostafiz.
Rescue Operation
Dhaka divisional fire service unit deputy director ABM Nurul Haque said seven fire fighting units joined the rescue operation.
Search for bodies or survivors from the collapsed makeshift house will be continued till recovery of a single missing person, he told reporters.
He, on Thursday morning, further said 70 percent debris has been removed and then divers will search in the Jheel water for body.
Probe Committee
Dhaka District Administration has formed a three-member committee over the Rampura tin-shed house that killed 12 people.
Dhaka deputy commissioner Tofazzel Hossian Mia informed the matter to reporters on the accident spot.
He said the committee, headed by Dhaka Additional District magistrate, has been asked to submit report within five days. Next action would be taken on basis of the report.
Prime Minister Sheikh Haisna expressed her deep shock at the death of 12 people in tin-shed house collapse.
She also directed authorities concerned to boost the rescue operation.
