BAGERHAT: An alleged ringleader of a forest robber group was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with joint forces in Sarankhola Bazar area of Sarankhola upazila early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Belal Farazi, 35, ringleader of robber gang ‘Belal Bahini’ of the area.

District Superintendent of Police (SP) Nizamul Haque confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police said, the joint forces members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), police and Coast Guard conducted a drive in the area around 3:00pm after being informed that the robbers taking preparation for an attack.

Sensing the presence of the joint forces, the robbers opened fire at them. In response, the law enforcers also fired at the robbers that left Belal dead on spot and another robber Farid Munshi, 35, injured.

The joint forces also seized three fire arms and 50 rounds of bullets from the spot.
