3 more killed in two trawlers capsize

DHAKA: Rescue unit of fire service and police separately recovered bodies of three persons who had gone missing in two trawlers sank off the Buriganga and Meghna Rivers.

The deceased were identified as Jamila Khatun, 65, wife of Abdur Rashid of Lalbagh Shahidnagar area of Dhaka and Rasel, 19 Keya Moni, daughter of Abdul Kadir of Chandina in Comilla.

Banglanews Narayanganj Correspondent reports: The death toll from the trawler capsize in the Buriganga has risen to 10 with the recovery bodies of a woman and a youth till Friday afternoon.

Deputy Director of Narayanganj Fire Service Mamtaz Uddin confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Earlier, a Sadarghat-bound trawler with 80 passengers on board, started from Beltoli of Narayanganj, capsized in the Buriganga River at Aliganj of Pagla after being hit by a sand-laden trawler on Thursday afternoon, leaving eight people drowned.

On the other hand, a body of four-year-old kid was recovered around 5:00pm Friday, raising the death toll to six in trawler capsize in the Meghna River of Gazaria Upazila, reports Banglanews Munshiganj Correspondent.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Gazaria Thana Habibullah confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said the Chandpur-bound trawler coming from Daudkandhi Ghat sank as a sand-laden bulkhead hit the trawler near Gazaria around 9:30pm Wednesday.
