DHAKA: Local units of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) separately observed hartal in four districts and an upazila on Sunday amid the BNP called nationwide indefinite blockade.

Sources told banglanews that dawn-to-dusk hartal was observed in Sirajganj, Lalmonirhat, and Patuakhli districts and Daganbhuiyan upazila of Feni while a half-day hartal was observed in Pirojpur, beginning from 6:00am.

Banglanews Sirajganj Correspondent reports, BNP men were seen nowhere for pickets, demonstrations, and processions in the district round the day.

However, no passenger bus was also seen moving though buses carrying Ijtema devotees were plying without any interruption, he added. No bus on long-distant routes left the bus terminal of the district.

On the other hand, our Lalmonirhat correspondent said that the local BNP also observed a daylong hartal in the district.

No picketing was also reported in the district.

Banglanews District Correspondent in Patuakhali added, local BNP observed hartal protesting the confinement of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to her Gulshan office in Dhaka and arrests of their party leaders and activists across the district as well.

Banglanews District Correspondent in Pirojpur reports, district BNP has also observed a half day hartal there since the morning.

BNP men brought out brisk processions in the town and vandalized two vehicles during hartal.

Nevertheless, Banglanews District Correspondent in Feni added that a daylong hartal enforced by Daganbhuiyan upazila unit of Jubo Dal was observed across the upazila since the morning.
