DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid rich tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Saturday morning marking the historic Homecoming Day of the great leader.
The premier placed floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu in the city’s Dhamondi area at 7:00am.
After paying tributes, she stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of Bangabandhu.
Later, as the president of Awami League (AL), Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu along with senior leaders of her party.
Party’s General Secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, advisory council members Amir Hossain Amu and Suranjit Sen Gupta, presidium members Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Sahara Khatun, joint secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, Dhaka city AL general secretary Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya were present at the time.
After paying tributes, Hasina stayed at Bangabandhu Bhaban awhile.
Leaders and activists of AL’s associated organization also paid homage to Bangabandhu.
Saturday is the 44th Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
On January 10, 1972, Bangabandhu returned to Bangladesh via London and New Delhi from his captivity in Pakistan. He also took oath of office as the country's premier on that day.
