5 remanded on RU teacher murder case

RAJSHAHI: A Rajshahi court on Tuesday placed five accused on a two-day remand in a case of Rajshahi University teacher AKM Shafiul Islam murder.

Judge Sharmin Akhter of Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 passed the order after Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain of Motihar Thana, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with remand plea.
 
The accused are Katakhali Municipality Jubo Dal former organizational secretary Ariful Islam Manik, Jubo Dal activists Sabuj, Pintu, Al-Mamun and Sirajul Islam Kalu.

They will be taken to the police station for interrogation, the OC added.

Earlier on Sunday, Ibrahim Khalil alias Tokai Babu sent to jail after three-day fresh remand.

However, the defense lawyers appealed for the bail of Jinnat Ali and Sagar and 10-day remand for Arif, but the count denied the pleas.

Earlier on November 15, Professor Dr AKM Shafiul Islam of Sociology Department of Rajshahi University was chopped to death by miscreants in front of his residence.
