4 killed in Madaripur road crash

MADARIPUR: At least four people were killed and 34 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Ghatak Char area of the district on Sunday afternoon.

Of the deceased, one was identified as Bhanu Ghosh, 55, of Basitpur of the district.

Police sources said a passenger bus of Sugondha Paribahan hit a roadside tree on the highway in the area after its driver lost control over steering around 1:30pm, leaving two people dead on the spot and 37 others injured.”

Of the injured, one fatally injured succumbed to his injuries on his way to the district Sadar Hospital while another died on way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

The injured were admitted different hospitals, including Madaripur Sadar Hospital, Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Barisal Medical College Hospital.

Deputy Commissioner of the district GSM Jafar Ullah confirmed the matter to banglanews.

An injured passenger, identified himself as Farid Gazi, told banglanews: “The bus driver was smoking when the accident took place.”

Meanwhile, district administration announced a donation of Tk 10,000 to family of the deceased each and Tk 5,000 to the family of the injured each.
