Three members of a family, including a Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee, were killed after a bus hit their motorcycle in Kaunia upazila of Rangpur this morning (May 13).
The accident occurred around 9:15 am in Jummar area of Mahesha village, when a speeding bus hit a motorcycle on the Kurigram-Rangpur highway, police said.
The victims were identified as Rabina Begum (32), her two-year-old son Rahmat Ali, and her niece Afsana Begum Sneha (16), who was on her way to sit for her SSC exam.
According to family and police sources, Md. Ashraful Islam Landi, a resident of Mirbag Mahesha village, was taking Sneha to her examination center at Kaunia Mofazzal Hossain Government High School when the accident occurred.
As they reached Mirbag Jummar area, a bus traveling in the same direction struck the motorcycle, leaving Rabina, Rahmat, and Sneha dead on the spot.
Kaunia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Latif Shah confirmed the incident, saying that the bodies have been recovered and sent for autopsy.
