Members of several units of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) under Battalion-49 in Jashore have seized illegal Indian goods and drugs worth Tk 2.07 crore from various areas near the Benapole border.
According to a press release issued by BGB-49 on Monday (May 19), the seizure was made during anti-drug and anti-smuggling drives conducted in the border region.
The seized items include Phensedyl, liquor, sarees, blankets, three-piece dresses, torchlights, pan masala, tobacco, jorda, transmitter equipment, chocolates, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, medicines, and cosmetics.
The press release, signed by BGB-49 Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui, said the drives were carried out in the border areas of Benapole and Hijli BOP, Benapole ICP, and Amrakhali checkpoint.
He said special surveillance and operations are being carried out in the border areas under a planned strategy, and such drives will continue in the coming days.
