3 Thakurgaon accounts officials among 4 killed in Dinajpur road crash

Four people, including three officials from the Thakurgaon District Accounts Office, were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a microbus and a truck in Dinajpur’s Birganj upazila early Monday (May 19). 

The accident occurred around 7 am in the Chabbish Mile area of Birganj as the officials were travelling from Thakurgaon to Rangpur to attend a conference. 

The deceased are driver of the microbus Manik Hossain, 42, of Road Colony area in Thakurgaon, Delwar Hossain, 45, of Hazipara area in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, Imrul Hasan, 43 of Boaldar village in Baliadangi upazila, and Zulfiqar Ali, 45, of Malibhita village in Ranishankail upazila.

According to police and witnesses, a speeding truck collided head-on with their microbus, causing it to overturn. Two of the passengers died on the spot, while another died on the way to the hospital and a fourth after being admitted.

Three other injured officials are Md Al-Mamun, 40, an auditor and resident of Hahipadi village; Abdus Mannan, 37, of Shirajstha village; and Nahid Hasan, 32, a super accounts officer. They have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment.

Dr Md Rakibul Islam Chayan, medical officer at Thakurgaon General Hospital, confirmed the deaths, saying four people had died so far and the injured were under medical care.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
