FROM PARLIAMENT: Disaster management and relief minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya on Sunday said modern equipments of Tk 60 crore have been purchased for salvation work during earthquake. 

The minister made the disclosure while addressing parliament in response to a question from lawmaker AKM Rahmatullah.

These tools include fork lifts, excavators, cranes and mobile light units, Maya told the House.

He also said the equipments have already been handed over to the rescue departments of the armed forces, fire service and civil defense, city corporations and coast guards.

Besides, process of purchasing equipments of Tk 158 crore is underway, he added.

Maya said the incumbent government has taken initiatives in implementing national building codes, making contingency plan and creating awareness among people through training to community volunteers.
