Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that India is pushing people into Bangladeshi territory through rivers and forests, which is not the behaviour of a civilised nation.
He made the remarks while responding to a question from reporters after an Eid greetings exchange and a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday (June 15).
The adviser said, “Push-in is ongoing. I have spoken about this many times. We have contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs several times regarding the issue.”
He said the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka had visited his office, and the matter was discussed during that meeting.
“If there are Bangladeshi nationals in India, they should be returned through the proper channel and we will accept them. But leaving them in rivers and forests is not the act of a civilised country,” the adviser told journalists.
