FARIDPUR: A convicted prisoner Wednesday (June 19) fled from a Faridpur court premises after he was sentenced to life imprisonment for double murder.
The prisoner who escaped is identified as Afsar Fakir who was among the convicted killers of two men in Saltha upazila.
Afsar Fakir fled from the court compound while sub-inspector (SI) Shah Alam of Saltha police station, took him to the jail after pronouncement of the verdict.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station FM Nasim told Banglanews that at that time, there were crowds of relatives of the accused. The accused Afsar Fakir escaped from police custody.
But the police operation is underway to catch him, the OC added.
Earlier in the day, a court here sentenced thirteen people to life imprisonment for killing two people in Saltha upazila in 2003.
The lifers include Afsar Fakir, Mannan Khan, Suran Kha, Majed Kha, Wajed Kha, Rashed Kha, Siddique Fakir, Fazlu Fakir, Rahman Kha, Rezaul Kha and Osman Fakir.
According to the prosecution, convicts hacked Ganjor Kha and Mosa Mollah to death following an altercation in an arbitration meeting at Notkhola village in the upazila on December 23, 2003.
