DHAKA: The mother and son of S Alam Group chairman Saiful Alam Masud have tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), a day after his elder brother and the conglomerate's director Morshedul Alam died from the disease.

Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Saiful Alam's 85-year-old mother Chemon Ara Begum, 85, and 26-year-old son Ahsanul Alam, also the chairman of Union Bank, tested positive at BITID's lab in Chattogram on Saturday, he said.

Both of them were then shifted to a hospital in Dhaka, Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi added.

On May 17, five of Saiful's brothers, including Morshedul Alam, and one of their wives tested positive for the coronavirus.

The 65-year-old Morshedul Alam, also a director of the NRB Global Bank, lost the battle for his life at the intensive care unit of the Chattogram General Hospital on Friday night.

S Alam Group's Vice Chairman Abdus Samad Labu, Director Rashedul Alam, Shahidul Alam, Osman Gani and their sister-in-law Farzana Begum are currently undergoing treatment of Covid-19.
