Draft of 4-nation road connectivity pact okayed

DHAKA: The government has approved draft of the agreement on road connectivity between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal.

The approval came from a regular cabinet meeting on Monday, with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

Once this agreement is inked, private, public and commercial vehicles of the four countries will be able to travel across the four countries and tourists will be allowed to travel on private transport between these countries.

Meeting sources said the pact is expected to be singed on June 15 at the ministry level meeting in Bhutan. After signing the deal, connectivity will be strong among the four nations.

The sub-regional connectivity among Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) will enable greater people-to-people cooperation and enhance intra-regional trade.
