CPD doubtful of achieving revenue target

DHAKA: Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) expressed doubt whether revenue target and budget financing can be achieved, not on the size of proposed budget for 2015-16 fiscal year.

The speakers made the observation in a press conference on CPD’s criticism about National Budget 2015-16 in City’s BRAC Inn Centre on Friday.

CPD Fellow Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya said that they are worried about the budget financing and missing, not the size. CPD has doubt whether the revenue target can be achieved. If it does not be fulfilled, the target of budget will also remain incomplete, he added.

Every year, the deficit budget fixes under 5 percent, in upcoming fiscal year, it has been fixed at 4.5 percent. The size of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has to be increased, but the loan dependency from internal sources should be lessened, he opined.

Regarding the bank loan, Dr Debapriya said despite record-breaking foreign reserve, bank loan dependency has been proposed in the budget for next fiscal.

The CPD fellow also expressed doubt whether the people would get the benefit of the budget though there is an evaluation on project allocation and expenditure.

CPD executive director professor Mustafizur Rahman, additional research director Dr Khondaker Golam Moazzem, research fellow Towfiqul Islam Khan, among other, were present in the conference.
