Road crashes kill 15 in 5 districts

DHAKA:  At least 15 people were killed and 29 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sirajganj, Moulvibazar, Rangpur, Natore districts on Friday.

Banglanews correspondents reported from the respective areas.

In Sirajganj, four people were killed and three others sustained injuries as a microbus ran over a human hauler in Chairman Market area on Hatikumrul-Banpara highway of the district.

The deceased were identified as China Khatun, 26, daughter of Noba Fakir of Salanga Thana, her father-in-law Rajab Ali, 50, Abdul Hamid, 65, of Syedganti village in Kamarkhand Upazila and his daughter Rehana Khatun Eti, 22.

Hatikumrul Highway Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) BM Imdadul Haque confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Dhamrai Upazila of Dhaka, four people were killed and 20 others injured as a passenger bus of Saudia Paribahan collided head-on with a brick-laden truck on Dhaka-Aricha road in Joypura Bus Stand area of the upazila around 2:00am.

The deceased were identified as Shahidul Islam, 21, an army man, Shamshur Raman, 45, Obaidur Rahman, 70, and an unidentified woman.

Dhamrai Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Moulvibazar, three people were killed and three others injured as a private car, returning from the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal in Sylhet, hit a roadside tree in Kakiyabazar area under Srimangal Upazila as its driver lost control over steering.

The deceased were identified as Raju Ahmed, 35, Sabuj Mian, 40, Arif Hossain, 28. All were hailed from Srimangal Upazila, according to police sources.

Srimangal Thana Officer-In-Charge Abdul Jalil confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Rangpur, two men were killed as a passenger bus ran over a motorcycle on Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Bijoler Ghanti area under Kaunia Upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Khaleque, 35, of haragachh pouro area and Mominul Islam, 55, of SArai Bazar area.

Kaunia Thana OC Rezaul Karim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

In Natore, two people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Sayedmore area of Sadar Upazila and Khejurtala area of Boraigram Upazila.

The dead persons are Abdul Latif Mridha, 50, messenger of UCBL in Rajshahi and Ashraful islam, 35, of Puradah Upazila of Chuadanga.

District’s Fire Service and Civil Defense officer Abdur Rauf and Boraigram Thana OC Monirul Islam separately confirmed the matter to banglanews.
