DHAKA: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 fixed May 10 for delivering order whether trial of eight Jamalpur ‘razakers’ for their alleged involvement in crimes against humanity committed during the Liberation War would be started in absence of six of them.
The three-member tribunal headed by Justice Obaidul Hasan fixed the date after receiving report from Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Earlier on April 29, the tribunal asked IGP for submission of report on the arrest of fugitive accused on May 6.
After submission of the reports of IGP, Prosecutor Tapas Kanti Ball said police could not arrest the accused.
The accused are Ashraf Hossain, 64, Prof Sharif Ahammed, 71, Abdul Mannan, 66, Abdul Bari, 62, Harun, 58, Abul Hashem, 65, Shamsul Haque, 75, and AKM Yusuf Ali, 83.
However, Shamsul and Yusuf are in jail while the rest are absconded.
The ICT, on April 29, took the charge against the eight accused into cognizance and earlier on April 19, the prosecution pressed formal charge against them bringing five allegations including murder, abduction and torture.
According the formal charges, the crimes were committed in between April 22 and December 11, 1971 in Jamalpur.
Of the eight accused, advocate Shamsul Haque and SM Yusuf Ali were arrested on March 2, minutes after the ICT-2 issued arrest warrant against them.
