DHAKA: Bangladesh is one of the mostly affected nations to global climate change in the world. If sea level has risen by one-meter, 20 to 40 million people of the country will be displaced.
Foreign secretary Shahidul Haque disclosed the matter in a joint press conference titled "Regional Dialogue on Global Issues, Climate Change Disaster and Human Mobility in South Asia in the Indian Ocean region” at foreign ministry around 11:45am Wednesday.
He said that the climate disaster has been displacing around 27 million people every year in the world since 2008.
Everyone must work together to tackle the crisis, said the Foreign Secretary.
Swiss Ambassador to Dhaka Christian Fotsch, the Norwegian Deputy Head of Mission Arne Haug and IOM Bangladesh chief Sharad Dass were present at the press conference.
‘The mention initiative’ is going to arrange a conference on climate change in next April 3-5 in Khulna where representatives of 15 countries, including Bangladesh, will attend.
The other countries are India, Myanmar, Nepal, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, Afghanistan, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Mauritius, Oman, Madagascar, and the Philippines.
