India to help rescue Bangladeshis in Yemen

DHAKA: Bangladesh foreign secretary Shahidul Haque said that India has agreed to help Bangladesh rescue its nationals from strife-stricken Yemen as the country has no embassy there.

Haque told the media at foreign ministry on Wednesday noon.

He further said that they have requested India to help Bangladesh in rescue operations as from 1,500 to 3,000 of its nationals staying mostly in Sana’a and Aden of Yemen.

According to the secretary, India has already sent a ship to Yemen.

Moreover, Bangladesh foreign ministry has also contacted with its Saudi Arabia and Kuwait embassies and a ‘helpline’ has been setup in this regard, he added.

On the Pakistan foreign ministry letter that refuses the return of stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh, the foreign minister declined to comment saying that it has a long history.
