‘Tough law against electronic media’

DHAKA: Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali on Tuesday categorically said a tough law would be enacted to control electronic media of the country.

Mohsin, who criticized the roles of electronic media over publishing report on the gruesome seven-murder in Naraanganj, said, “Such types of law is going to be formulated so that they (electronic media) will not have any freedom.”

The minister came up with the remarks while addressing as the chair of an inter-ministerial meeting held at his ministry in the Secretariat of the city on the day.

The meeting was held on the issue of keeping the capital’s strategic places bagger free.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mohsin said: “Electronic media outlets are telecasting the horrifying scenes of the killings in every five to ten seconds; they are instigating people doing this.”

“Law is going to be formulated so they (the media) will have no freedom,” he added.

Social Welfare ministry acting secretary Nasima Begum and representative from different ministries, Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the city corporations were present at the meeting.
