Suchitra house freed after 33 yrs

PABNA: Legendary actress of Bangla cinema Suchitra Sen’s ancestral house has been freed from illegal occupation in Gopalpur area in Pabna.

Occupying the place, Jamaat-e-Islami had been running an educational institution called ‘Imam Gazzali Institute’.

Pabna deputy commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin made the house free from occupation on Thursday morning with a court order.

Pabna Police Super Miraj Uddin Ahmed, Suchitra Sen Smriti Sangrakshan Parishad general secretary Dr Ram Dulal Bhoumik, district muktijoddha commander Habibur Rahman and Pabna Press Club general secretary Ahmed Ul Haque Rana, among others, were present during the drive.

Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin said, Suchitra Sen’s ancestral house is now free from occupation. Archives with Suchitra’s memorabilia will be setup here after the Eid.

Imam Gazzali Institute Trust secretary Abid Hasan Dulal said, we respect law. We have removed our furniture according to the court order.

Earlier on Wednesday, district administration officials led by Pabna Sadar AC Land and executive magistrate Shamim Ara Rimi locked the doors of the house.

District administration sources said that High Court ordered to vacant the house as early as possible. The court order reached the administration Tuesday.

The Institute people shifted their belongings on Tuesday night, the sources added.
