Death toll rises to 4

DHAKA: The death toll from Thursday’s chemical container blast incident in city’s Tejgaon area had risen to four on Friday midnight.

Earlier on Friday, three people, who sustained burn injuries in a fire in the blast, succumbed to their injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victims were identified as M Motaleb Hossain, 14, hailed from Laxmipur, Abdul Latif, a van-driver, Ibrahim Khalil, 35, hailed from Noakhali and Shafiul Azam, 45, hailed from Jhenaidah.

Motaleb Hossain, with 75 percent burns, breathed his last at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) at 11:45pm while Abdul Latif, with 96 percent burns, Ibrahim Khalil, with 91 percent burns, and Shafiul, with 95 percent burns, lost their battle for life in midnight and afternoon.

Earlier on Thursday noon, a chemical container explosion caused a fire near Tejgaon Women’s College gate in city leaving 11 critically injured including two student of private universities.

The victims were admitted to the burn unit of DMCH.
