Japan reaffirms full support to Bangladesh's interim govt

Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru today (May 30) reiterated Japan’s full support to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus-led interim government in its reform efforts and peaceful transition in Bangladesh.

During a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Japan-Bangladesh strategic partnership and a shared vision for a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). 

They also discussed bilateral cooperation, regional stability, and economic initiatives including the Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt (BIG-B) and the Moheshkhali-Matarbari project.

The two sides welcomed new agreements promoting Japanese investment and defense cooperation, and agreed to accelerate talks on an Economic Partnership Agreement. 

Yunus expressed gratitude for Japan's continued support, including its humanitarian aid for Rohingya refugees.

The Japanese premier praised Bangladesh's development efforts and accepted an invitation to visit Dhaka in the future.
