President mourns Badruddoza Chowdhury's death

President Mohammed Shahabuddin today (Oct 5) expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury.

In a condolence message, he said the death of Badruddoza Chowdhury is an irreparable loss to the country's political arena.

The head of state prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Badruddoza Chowdhury died in a Dhaka hospital early Saturday (October 5).

Born on October 11, 1930, Chowdhury served as the 14th President of Bangladesh from November 14, 2001, until his resignation on June 21, 2002.

He was elected as a member of parliament from the Sreenagar constituency in Munshiganj multiple times—1979, 1991, 1996, and 2001—representing Bangladesh Nationalist Party. During Khaleda Zia’s government, he held the positions of minister of education and minister of foreign affairs.

In 1996, while the Bangladesh Nationalist Party was in opposition, he served as deputy leader of the opposition in parliament.

After parting ways with the BNP, he established a new political party, Bikalpodhara Bangladesh, on May 8, 2004, and remained its president.
